Notum is progress claims software for Quantity Surveyors who assess and certify claims independently on behalf of a Principal, Client, or financier.

It brings the contract, Bill of Quantities, and every piece of evidence into a single project, with built-in AI support, so the assessment is the work, rather than the admin around it.

We know that assessing and certifying progress claims is an admin-intensive and time-consuming process. There’s scattered information to find and statutory deadlines to contend with.

When every project lives across different systems, valuable time is lost finding information, checking figures, and re-entering data, instead of applying professional judgement. Notum came about by listening to Quantity Surveyors describe where this time goes, and building a solution to eliminate the admin burden around the core workflow of assessing and certifying progress claims.

What Notum does for progress claims assessment

Notum helps streamline the process of assessing progress claims, from the moment you get the contract, to the last payment. Here’s a quick look at what you can expect:

Vera, Notum’s AI Assistant, helps across every step of the claim

Vera takes the manual work off your hands so your time and expertise go on the assessment.

One connected platform for every piece of the claim

A single source of truth across the whole claim workflow that gives you greater control, connecting the contract, Bill of Quantities, variations, site evidence, retention, and the claim itself.

Numbers that defend themselves

A full and transparent audit trail so you can certify with complete confidence that if a claim is queried later it can be explained from the record, not from memory.

Beat the deadline; keep the detail

Perform your assessment in half the time and have better control over the tension between strict SOPA deadlines and recording the detail that matters, so you’re not caught having to trade one for the other.

Protect your reputation; be the trusted name behind the claim

Mitigate risks with Vera performing an independent review and identifying what needs your attention, so nothing slips past your notice. AI helps flag the issues, but you remain in control.

What Quantity Surveyors are saying about Notum

Antony Jackman from APJ Consulting Services has already been experiencing the benefits of using Notum. Check out his comments below.

“Notum has significantly improved the way I manage progress claims, with a faster and more streamlined workflow. I estimate it saves at least half a day on a typical claim, while also reducing the risk of spreadsheet errors. This allows me to focus more time on the assessment itself, take on additional work and deliver greater value to my clients.“

Frequently Asked Questions about Notum

What is Notum?
Notum is progress claims software for Quantity Surveyors and cost management  professionals who assess and certify claims. It brings the contract, the Bill of Quantities, the contractor’s claim, site evidence and the certificate into one project, so every claim is quicker to assess and every certified number is defensible.

Who is Notum built for?
Quantity surveyors, cost consultants, cost managers, contract administrators and superintendents. Anyone assessing a contractor’s claim and certifying a payable amount on behalf of a client, Principal, or a financier.

What happens once a contractor’s claim is imported?
The claimed figures are matched against your Bill of Quantities rather than re-keyed, and Vera reviews what the contractor has submitted against the contract, the BOQ and previous claims, surfacing what warrants your attention. You can see its working, and question any project document directly. From there the assessment is yours, and every document and decision stays attached to the claim.

Does AI certify claims?
No. Vera reviews and reports. It does not approve, certify, or act on its own. There are two reviews in a Notum claim cycle and both end with findings on your screen rather than a decision: Vera reviews the contractor’s claim when it arrives, and when you have finished your assessment you can ask it to review your own work before you certify. What is payable, and the professional accountability behind it, stays with the certifying QS.

Is Notum a replacement for the QS?
No, and it could not be. Certification is a professional judgement carrying professional liability, and that does not transfer to software. What Notum removes is the work around the judgement: the reconciliation, the cross-referencing, the hunt for the document that supports a number. The judgement stays yours. Notum’s job is to make sure it is fully supported when someone questions it.

Is Notum available now?
Yes. Notum is available to customers today. The best way to see whether it fits your practice is a demo, where we walk through the platform against the way you actually run your claim cycle.
